at the moment i am using 12lb mono as main line with 50lb shock leader
i'm thinking of changing to braid any suggestions of braking strains for general beach fishing

Use power pro 30lb with a 50lb shock leader on a fixed spool reel for beach fishing. Just make sure that the reel has good line lay & you will never have a problem. It will cast a mile for you.

I recently started using braid on a multiplier, casts a dream,no birds nests yet touch wood, you see the slightest little tip on your bait.Using 50lb spiderwire EZ braid with 50lb shock leader.

Mono is far better for general shore angling, there is a very good and informative post on the subject with factual comments by SAI user Century, it's worth a read.

when lure fishing i use braid but for all my baitfishing i use .35 mono with a 50l/b shockleader because its more abrasion resistant and less likely to blow up on my multipliers when casting.it will cast further off of a fixed spool but i fish mostly for bass so i couldn't care less about that .mono is better all round for bait i reckon- my opinion from experience.

why confine yourself to one or the other ,if i,m fishing fixed spool or multi i always have spare spools loaded with both braid and mono and spare multi reels with both ,braid can give you treble the fun fighting any fish so why miss out ,on the down side there are days when you cant use it due to weather or terrain ,but i never go fishing without both

Totally agree with Roger, always have every angle covered,I normally fish two rods, one with mono and one with braid, spare reels and spools in the bag for options.

I have just bought 300 meters of 50lb power pro braid . Going to load it on my penn 525 mag 2 worth a go as I have fished with braid on beach fixed spools before & loved it. Hopefully the power pro will behave on the multiplier
