No offence meant by this, for all the world that 25lb!! Bass looks identical to the American "Morone saxatilis" aka "Stripped Bass" :shock:

No offence taken - I was the one who took the photo and can assure you - it is real!! Maybe I should contact the Irish Fisheries Board with this info if you are certain because I know that Stripped or srtiped bass are only found in American coastal waters! When this was caught - it was the only bass that day, between us!

I fish Fermoyle strand a lot and its is not an ordinary Bass in that photo I can tell you, it is a Strpped Bass and its a rare catch to say the least. You should document it as soon as possible with the CFB and also speak to the Irish Specimen Fish Committee, as if it was an ordinary Bass it would have smashed the Irish record if you reckon it was 25lbs, Well done, you have to love sea angling, u never know what will come out of the surf!!

Marty caught this using a surfface popping plug. A sand eel coloured Aile Magnet to be precise. He was using a Daiwa stiff spinning rod and a medium fixed spool reel loaded with 15-20lb line.

What weight?,how long did it take him to land it?,when did he catch it?

25lbs!!,thats a UK and Irish shore record then.You said it was caught on a plug but on the photo info you mention crab and mackerel??

I think it tipped the scales at 23lb 4 to be exact. It took him about 40 mins to land it, as it wouldn't give in. It was caught about 5.30 in the evening two days before Halloween last year.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no recorded instances of stripped bass in our waters. That is an impressive fish and definately a stripped bass.

THe photo looks dogey, the catch sounds to fantastic to be true. This web site has a long history of big bass being caught only to find out the evidense is photo shopped picture.

Are you sure it wasn't caught on the 1st of Apiril?

Donagh, thats fair enough - everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I can assure you however that it is not a dodgy photo. I'll be there again in March so If we can pull another one in like that - I'll have a camcorder to record it!!

sorry to be a sceptic but that looks like photoshop effort.

theres a flash reflection off of the tail of the fish yet nothing in the background has been bleached by the flash and no reflections on the water

I for one won't be wading down there again :shock: especially after the huge depth change on Fermoyle :lol:

Whatever guys! I'm sure we could inspect all the photos on this site for doctoring but - if you want to have the photo looked at by a pro - be my guest because I can tell you it is not tampered with in any way. Check out my gallery - I have placed a doctored photo there for yous to compare!!
