Shrimp imitation tackle. hit or miss?????

I was just wondering have many people used this method. either lures or flies and have they had much success. My local tackle shop was trying to sell me this type of fishing. either an imitation lure or large shrimp fly on the bobble float.

Used imitation shrimp rigs down on the Beara, the Pollock and Maks seems to like em.
