Hi,
haven't fished there in a good few years but there are old cables that run between Whitepoint and the island between the main pier and the ferry pier.We used to boatfish on the Haulbowline side in the ebb and across at Whitepoint Bouy on the flood.Always got good conger, rockling and dogs.August and September were the best months to fish and usually when there was little freshwater in the river.Be sure you get permission to fish there. At the back of the island is a good spot for Bass and Flounder and large plaice gather at this time of the year on the Spit Bank off the Eastern end of the Island.
Hope this helps.

Hi there,
There are spots around the naval base that are good for fishing but you would be entering a military instalation and chances are that you would not get permission to fish there,i used to fish it but i was a serving member in the navy,if you know someone that is serving and fishes that probably be the only way that you would get to fish there.

the bridge over to the navy basin on the crematorium side holds conger, between the railing below the bridge and the bridges first pillar...i never took one from there myself but i witnessed it a few times as i blanked : (
we used 30lb class boat rods because theres no need for a cast really,40/5o lbs mainline 60/80lbs leader..80lbs trunk on your trace and wire snood with 6/0 o'shaughnessy hooks penneled or single and a bag of mackerel heads...boat gear essentially.but not essential,my 'ol fella said when he was in the navy lads used to drag them up with hand lines !
i always thought the name came from hawling-bow-lines ; )
