Try getting a 12ft pike rod or similar. If you can get one with a 2 rather than 2.5lb curve or even 1.5 it'll give you a bit more action. Better for trying to bully anything and will also give you a bit more leverage due to the length. You will lose some feel and hence some fight though!

Get the 9ft 15-40 gram good fun but strong enough to get the pollack in.

have the 7ft 10-30g, its a superlight action had it origanally for trout spinning but using it for bass this year with a mitchell avocet III 4000! along with a vendetta casting rod and silvermax reel at medium action for some heavier plugs and jigs. The devil is the most fun by far though, get such a great scrap out of it but still has the butt strength to muscle good bass around kelp and rocks! For big pollock though i'd recommend you should probably go for the 9' 20-60 or the 9' 40-80 not the 10' the action would be lighter then the 9' and if it's similar blank taper to the 10-30 you'll need a stiffer action to pull >8lb pollock!

An 8+lb Pollock is going to do an awful lot of pulling back!
