licence for using nets off a beach?

All that is a pure shame here on the opposite side of the peninsula I haven't seen a quarter of what I did last year but that's only in about a four mile radius of the mouth of the harbour (inside included) only saw two drift nets in the harbour and one out the bay but that was about two miles out so not quiet sure what they were after.
Haven't been over as far as the inch reefs this year but i'd expect as many there as last year (over five miles) good salmon and seatrout river there very popular with anglers and got my first bass offshore there so there's definitely damage being done there!
On a side note I've seen Ventry harbour trawled twice this year and my marks there aren't producing.
This illegal netting bulls**t is tiresome and is only getting worse with the economic decline

Everyone needs to make the call about everything you see no matter how big or small you think it maybe. No point in moaning on here and waiting for someone else to do it make the phone call.

Who do you call(don't say ghost busters, but there again you might aswell). joking aside the fisheries protection are from what i have read very inaffective,i mean you can't have one bloke going down to inspect an illegal net or confront several netters,he'll just get his head caved in. so i don't blame them on that score.

He needs to be teamed up and backed up with the garda. If it was birds they were netting or shooting the twitchers would of had this problem sorted along time ago believe me.

So whats the difference between a bird watcher and a sports fisherman? both bring in money to the economy and i'm pretty sure that would run into the millions, but why would'nt the authorities take the same action to netting as they would to birds being slaughtered????

If i was a local and i had regular customers wether it was fisherman or bird watchers and all of a sudden they were not returning, then i would want to know why and then try and do something about it. If some toerag was damaging my business by removing /damaging local resources i would do something about it same as any business owner.

Having said all that i just don't have any answers,i know B.a.s.s. work hard behind the scenes and irish angling are doing there bit but this netting still thrives.

Think if we had the same amount of clout that the twitchers have it would be nipped in the bud. Their membership is astronomical even though ours is the most popular sport not all of us our affiliated to one body, but imagine if we were!!!!!!

Then agian bass fishing is not every fishermans choice of fish, which i totally respect, but once all the bass are gone, then it will be the pollack etc etc. If only we could convince the netters that dogfish was 10 euro a pound

Called fisheries officer in Dingle today because i saw a small punt (round 8ft) pulling nets near the mouth of milltown river. Small river but holds a few trout and a nice river for fly fishing, also big school of mullet feed there every evening. Anyways waited half an hour no sign of the officer so i shouted at your man asking what hes hauling to which he replied "Mind your business you little c**t". went back to launch the dory and confront him further but he was gone. Investigated where he was and about a dozen mullet lying on the sea bed and two Pink skeletons in the mix with them. Still no sign of the FO unfortunately

I know the river and holds a few salmon too, but the river is tormented, you should have rang the sea authority which is based on the pier in dingle, they have to investigate the trawlers, they would have properly told you it was the fishery boards problem but it would have been interesting to see what they said..

Fair play to you, but the fishery board won't investigate that for a couple of days.. It's s disgrace because obviously he is visible to everyone, the feohangh river over the valley is also a great river too but is destroyed and nobody gives a ****..

Why don't they employee people that would actually do something..

Oh ya i never thought about that actually he's a sound enough fella so he might have actually done something about. Well next time i'll give him a chance!

Ya i'm well aware of the lads that plague feothanach river as well, which is a worse shame because thats a beautiful river and has produced some great for fish for and my brother along with many local lads too!

Forget about employing people to do it i'd gladly volunteer if i could be given the authority to confiscate nets and slapp these bas****s with a summons or a fine or something!
