lookin for some info thinkin of fishing very rocky rough ground as in when your gear settles its stuck straight away does the pulley work or is it like 50/50 chance or worse that you can retrieve your gear

the pulley rig isn't an anti snag rig, it will snag just the same as any other rig, it only works when you have a fish on, it allows the lead to lift up over the snags when retrieving the fish....but you can up your chances of getting the gear back by using a rotten bottom which is a piece of lighter mono then your main line connecting your lead to the end of the trace, but you will need to use a rotten bottom clip so you can cast, otherwise the weak line will break and the lead could hit someone.
another thing you can do is to use soft wire hooks as they will bend out of snags, I use mustad Vikings myself, these will not bend out of a fish.
but the most important thing is a good reliable leader knot otherwise you wont be able to straighten hooks, I use the Bimini twist to connect my leader and if tied correctly you will not break it, the main line will go before it, I am yet to break this knot....it looks complicated but its not, well worth learning.
hope this helps
