Left or right hand

Hi, I usually hold my rod in my right hand and wynd with my left,(fixed spool). Does this mean I would need a left hand wynd multiplier.

Most right handed anglers use a fixed spool the same way you do, rod in right hand, peddle with their left.

The same guys will use a normal right handed multiplier, left hand multipliers are mostly used by American Bass fishermen for casting plugs using one-handed pistol-grip rods.

Or left-handed people like myself (stating the obvious!).

I've a small Abu LH reel for some shore work, and a larger Penn Lever Drag for heavy boat work. Thankfully using a lighter RH reel with level-wind does the job for all other boat work.

Thats interesting cos I'm VERY left handed however I hold my rod in my left and use a right handed reel. I think the reason I do this is that I like to hold the rod in my stronger hand and use the rod to haul in the kelp rather than use the reel to wind in the kelp if that makes sense. Any comments or observations?

i fish right handed even though i am a lefty and i find the change to surf fishing with its a**e about face methods a little difficult . Its not so much the casting but the retrieve thats the problem , i just cant get the bloody left thumb to work properly !
To confuse matters even more i bought a ABU 6501 , a left hooker with a level wind , filled it with 15lb and a tapered shock leader, to avoid fouling the levelwind,............the level wind is great but it feels unatural to be winding in with the left ! .............so i rekon the only cure is practise either that or a fixed spool .

I don't think I was out of line saying what I did, if you take offense by it, then excuse me, I was not knocking anyone. Just trying to give a newbie some advice 8)

Many left handed people use right handed tools etc, one reason being the cost, most items that come in either left or right hand options cost more in the left handed version.

Whatever suits, suits!

I am right handed, but can only use a F/S reel handle with my left hand, tried the other way around, not comfortable for me.

Bought a left handed Abu multiplier once (for spinning) used it for about 30 minutes, changed over to a F/S, never used it again, sold it at a huge loss.
