Chemical light sticks

Given that most flatfish are said to hunt largely by sight, and fishing for them is often better closer in after dark, has anyone got any opinion on the usefulness of chemical light sticks on terminal tackle?

They work! more often than not, as do glow beads etc.

for the ones that come with a piece of clear tubing , cut the tubing in two and slide it onto you line above hook if you choose to put it on your snood or put it just above your lead.then push the chemical lite into the tubing at either end and it should stay in place ok. if i use them they are normally above the lead and lumi beads on hook snoods. aint used the lites on my rigs for a good while but when i did it was usually while targeting whiting or coalies at dark and i didnt notice much difference in catch rate compared to the beads.....and beads are reusable!
they can also work inside a whole squid if you are using one to target bigger species at dark or in deep or coloured water.

Well, I figure that unless the flats are actually scared off by the lights, they're worth a try. I'm tying up a rig with a bait feeder (will have a sponge filled with mackeral/pilchard oil in it) and booby beads as well as the lights. Provided I can actually cast the whole mess, if the fish can't find that, well, they'll have to buy their own white sticks....

My catch rate can only improve...

sometimes too many attractors etc can spook the fish
sometimes a plain simple rig will outfish all others
everything is worth a try though, guess its all trial and error!

I'd agree, Phil. I tend to go for the plain hook, line, sinker approach where possible. But I've noticed that the lads lifting the most fish have the most bling on - which seems daft when targetting flatties in the dark. I can see the point in daylight, fair enough.

Needless to say, I now have a pile of rigs tied that range from having the odd bead or spoon on to those with more bling than your average rapper...

All I need now is to get out and test them. There goes the weekend, I guess...
