Don't know about Salthill doing crap! To be honest I haven't fished the area in quite a while, but the thing is, not many have, so I reckon there could be some good fishing to be had, with a bit of local knowledge and the right areas conger mullet flats and bass can easily be caught within 10-15 minute drive from the city. Mullet are plentyful in Rusheen bay, flats can be got on a few beaches in Salthill and silverstrand, conger off the slipway in Salthill by the carpark, and bass, over the years the have been caught from ballyloughan beach All the way to spiddal pier, they are there, just don't expect to catch them regularly, I've fished the areas for 17 years and only landed 2 bass.

I've heard from reliable sources recently that there are a few doggies about on the right hand side at Silverstrand after dark - just make sure you have a good headlamp, it could be a bit of a dodgy area without one.

You could always try the spiddal area either the beach, the pier if your lucky enough to get there before it in use or try the marina.
