Buying bait

Sun Aug 04, 2013 8:11 am

Hi lads.
Arrived to our home for the next 2 weeks right next to Hook Head. Got talking to a woman in the local shop about bait. I have to Pre order lug/ rag and peeler. I know it's a stupid question but what sort of quantities would u normally get? I've bought worms before for salmon fishing so know what to expect but am a novice when it comes to sea fishing. Also any tips would be great as to where/how to fish down here.

Thanks
Jim

 crab by the dozen depending on size , rag or lug by the pack 20 in those .....don t go near the hook area without a bit of mackerel or sandeel ...but if you are just after sport the wrasse love a bit of rag ...close in at full tide today 5pm or so fish under the lighthouse its easy access and you should hook up ....good luck

One of the key things is figure out how long of a trip your doing and how many people.. is it just you? or you and a mate? out for one day or over a period of a few days, I normally dig my own, so I know the sizes of worms Im aiming for, and the area/ areas Im fishing. But if I am heading out for a single (just me) day trip, Id dig say 30-40 worms (mix between lug and rag), and a handful of peelers, just to cover bases. If Im heading out with the lads Id double or triple that, or If I am heading out for two- three days. I try and not waste bait and any unused goes back to the areas I found it in., Regarding the Hook, keep an eye on your car and gear, there was a recent report of someone trying to rob a tackle box

Thanks lads, heading out tomorrow evening for a few hours before high tide. Seen a good few mackerel being caught this evening so am going to give it a shot with a few feathers. Heard there's a few being caught off the rocks near slade too.

Checked that pm again, thanks sparkey
