rod rest fitting

Not really a shore angling question but I'm sure somebody here can help my stupidly. A well meaning family member bought me what they thought was a rod rest. It's a fitting with a brass screw thread and two balls that hold the rod butt. However, what does this screw in to and where do you get them? I think the thing cost about a tenner and I'd hate to disappoint them by never using it.

Afraid not. I think it belongs on a rod pod or pole of some sort for coarse angling rods.

If it looks like that then it's used in course fishing.

Screw it onto a bankstick or rodpod to hold and move a pole rod.

Normally used in pairs or from a angling chair.
