Swallowed hook

Wed Jul 31, 2013 1:15 pm

Hi - only got into fishing in the last few months and have had a few outings around the coast trying piers and beach. I've caught a few small flounder that ended up swallowing the entire hook to the point I couldn't extract it, despite using pliers etc. By the time I had worked it out the fish were dead which is not what I'm about.

Is it best to just cut the hook and let them off when this happens - do they survive that? They were pretty small and was gutted not to have got them back in safely (so they can grow into monsters for a later date!).
