Cold waterford!!

Fri Dec 30, 2005 3:54 pm

Went out with brother after cod Wed. 28 Dec. Fished Passage east from low tide (09.30) until 2 hours up. Started quickly with a small cod and a few small whiting, plenty of knocks and then by 11 am, nothing. So we packed up and went to the flat rocks in Dunmore, just to kill an hour and a half (and a few lug!) before heading back to Cheekpoint (beach!!??)for the high tide where we froze and virtually blanked. Was it that we dug the lug the day before (Wrapped it in newspaper overnight, seemed ok in the AM)?, was it that we were fishing in daylight? or do these days just happen. There was a seal crusing about 50 yards offshore in both marks. We had been very hopeful setting out based on the previous posting about waterford cod. Help

Hi Pollocks

Seals in the water nearby always kill the fishing stone dead imho... had it on the last two trips myself.

The other problem with the harbour is that it gets netted regularly once the cod are "in". Have you any reports from Bellview or is that now closed to fishing as there was a rumour about that this time last year?

Tight lines

Thanks for that info Kieran, We'll move on if we see seals next time. Haven't heard anything about Bellview. Next time I plan to fish passage either side of high tide but it will be about 2 weeks before I get out again
