I am thinking of buying a reel off ebay soon.Preferably a fairly light fixed spool or a baitcaster but I have never used ebay before. Can anyone suggest a good seller who you were happy with that may have reels. Ronald suggested starburymytalk but he has no reels at the moment though I will keep an eye out.
Then I don't know what to do once I bid but presume the steps are pretty well explained and straightforward on the site.
Thanks all.

P.S. If anyone wants to sell a reel like this let me know.

What type of reels are you looking for, I know there is a guy from Sweden who sells Abu reels on Ebay regular. I know guys in the States who byu from him at a very good price. BUT!! he is not allowed to sell into Europe.
As far as "Payment Method" I am told PayPal is the safest to use because of the insurance they give against scams. I've never used them myself but have read up on their website how to use them, take a look for yourself.
Hope this helps you.

Have used ebay some 60+ times without problem. PayPal has also proven to be trouble free.
The only ebay scams that I am aware of, arrive by e-mail. So, only take notice of ebay messages that arrive on your personalised ebay site ( that you log onto with your password ).
Final note is to take notice of post and packing charges. Some sellers pile this on!

Not all scams are by email. Penn US had to request Ebay to pull an ad that was advertising Penn reels for sale direct from China and asking for funds to be paid by Western Union. It turned out that the seller had NO reels to sell.
This happened over a 3 day period, Penn got on the case after the second day and had to FORCE Ebay to move on it with a threat of legal action.
The last report on this matter couldn't say if anyone had sent money or not. It can be a mine field if your not careful. PayPal is the way I would go if I were buying off Ebay.

Col,
I have just purchased a penn reel from HAR LEE ROD on ebay.
He is one of the biggest sellers on ebay and I have never had a problem with them.
Their prices are excellant and shipping is usually 15 dollars.
Cheers

Col, there are various scams out there so I would advise only buying off a seller with 100+ feedback the number displayed next to there name and with recent positive feedback (i.e. in the last few days). – you can view this by clicking on the number. I would advise signing up to Pay Pal its easy and free and will make using E-bay a breeze and a lot safer. NEVER PAY ANYONE VIA WESTERN UNION or any other wire transfer service. E-bay is a great source of cheap stuff and all sellers I have dealt with have been happy to send to Ireland for a small additional postage charge.. but its worth agreeing this before you bid! Some sellers are based in Ireland like me but use ebay.co.uk as it’s the best chance of selling and for buyers the best place to search.
There shouldn’t be any charge for customs from the UK or Europe but it is possible to get charge duty on goods from US (but rare I believe)
Anyone been charged on goods from the US?

Thanks for all the info lads and helping me on my way.
It doen't cost anything to set up a Paypal account or to use it to pay sellers after buying something off ebay does it?
Thanks again.

Hi Col,
It doesnt cost anything. Exchange rates are not the best but still as good as credit card rates.
Enjoy
