Had an argument with a lad on Arklow beach last night, a big boxer dog bounded down the beach with half a tree in its mouth and proceeded to pee on my beach buddy, i hit it a smack of my freezer box lid and the dog went for me. I told the owner that he should have the f###ing thing on a lead he told me i should not be fishing on this beach that there were signs at the entrance. however it went on and on and it came to no conclusion i was hopping. and that's not the first time this has happened. I think dog owners should take responsibility for there muts and put Nappy's on them when they are out. Any one else had this problem.

Seat Boxes and Beach Buddies attract dogs like Flies... Try jumping up and staring the Mutt down before taking further action.... Once happened to me with a Pair of Dobermans... I just had to stand there and not look like Prey...  jk jk...

Regardless of fishing/no fishing signs, everyone is responsible for their dog's behaviour. Owner should have had better conttrol over his mutt.
Mind you, I wouldn't have been best pleased to see my mutt take a swipe of a box lid.

have seen dogs pissin on boxes and rod butts while in tripods, gettin tangled in spare rigs hanging from tripods, eatin your mackerel fillets........
i am a dog owner myself and would never consider letting them off the leads on an open beach with ANY other member of the public on it.
the dog owner may have been mad if u hit his mutt on the snout with a plastic lid....but.... im sure he would have been really annoyed if you had have taken proper revenge and drunk on his dog!!!
good luck with the cleaning job paul... i wouldnt fancy it

Paul,
Im suprised at you, why didnt you give the owner and his dog a kick in the bollocks, I know you hump a load of gear with you to the beach, start to include a baseball bat, anyone askes why (the law) its to kill those fish you catch ,
Its a good job your beach-buddy's not here, you've got me pissing myself at this post, I've got this picture of you, the guy and his dog all standing around barking at each other, was Steven with you 8)

lol :D
Rockhopper why dont you incorporate these into your beach trolley
1. baseball bat holder , complete with custom baseball bat, should keep the dog's and their owners at bay
2. pepper spray m for thoe pesky people that ask " have you caught anything yet ? "
3. surface to surface missile system, gets rid of unwanted jetskiers, surfers and trawlers
:D

I think Dogs are a serious pain on the beach. My favourite experience was having a spare rig with macko and sandeel hanging off my tripod during a match when a dog came flying down the beach. He leaped onto my freshly baited hanging trace and proceeded to wolf down my bait, hooks and all.
The owner casually turned up about 3 mins later and as they do started giving out to me. As far as I know you are not aloud to release a dog in public areas so basically he was talking crap.
My then giddy response was to say to the owner, which really drunk him off, "look I hooked your dog fair and square and whether you like it or not I am weighing him in", he was not to happy with that but luckily for him and his dog, the dog spat up the cocktail and ran off to the next angler

This actually happend about 16 years ago in England fishing a comp on the river Tyne. A tackle dealer (great guy) had 2 dogs, one was a pet the other one he was married to   anyways, with about an hour left in the match, his wife came down to see him (nice summer night) and let their dog off the lead. It ran further down the line and took a baited rig one of the guys had hanging off his rod stand, wooosh the stand goes over the dog is well hooked in the tongue and squeeling like a banshee, then the wife starts squeeling like a banshee " oh Barney! oh Barney" The guys are all laughing but trying to settle the dog to get the hook out, everytime they tried it would yelp and screem   the wife insisted he take them both to the vet, by this time its almost 11:00 pm (end of the match time) anyways he packed up and drove off with the 2 of them in the car, the dog had a 12" piece of mono sticking out of its mouth attached to the 2/0 Kamasan in its tongue. I phoned him the next day, the vet charged him £90.00 sterling to remove the hook out of hours. Amost everyone who came into the shop said the same thing "you should have just put your foot on its neck and give it a quick tug"
In Florida it is against the law to harrass any angler, if they complain to the beach patrol sherriff, about surfers, boaters or beach walkers and they are charged, its worked on a first come basis, if the angler is there first, leave him in peace. Amen! wish they would do that over here 8)
Phil, perhaps that trolley may need a niffty detachable handle that would double up as a cosh
