Dun Laoighre pier?

Hi all, I want to fish one of these piers soon but have no clue where to go.I did a search but people seem to say fish the east one, but most reports are from the west.Could you please tell me where abouts on one of the piers I should fish.
I will only be using one rod which will be a light spinning rod and 1 ounce weight.I will probably target whiting but don't really know as never fished here before. Thanks for any info.

either of the piers will produce fish. the west being the longer walk. sometimes inside the harbour can fish well too, plus it will be ideal for your light gear. u will catch fish during daylight but evening into dark is usually a lot better for better whiting. after january you will usually need worm baits to keep bites coming- tip off with small pieces of fish/squid/mussel...

mark is dead right. i would concentrate on the inside of the west pier just at the very end of it. its safe easy to fish and will keep small flatties and whiting coming all day

Thanks lads, guest above was me. Can you catch the flats on frozen baits like sandeel or mussell or are worms a must, just probably won't have time to get any.Presume some whiting will fall to sandeel/mack/squid? Also does tide matter that much here?
Cheers.

i wouldn't worry too much about tide- incomin into darkeness is good. i found mackeral/ rag and lug all good for flats. just keep the bait neat. some nice flounder can be caught inside the harbour at various spots on the way to the end and can be worth a chuck or two! worm is better inside harbour for the flounder. if water is clear try a few small glo-beads above the hook.

funny thing i have found if u r fishing off the end of the west pier is that the fish come on best at slack water

i wont disagree it's been a few years! i can't remember wat slack was like??i never found the ebb great for the whiting though- could be just me though!!

slack water at either end of the tide seems just as good. maybe it is that the tide run is too great for them apart from that section of the tide. they are right in close on the harbour side of the west pier
