Hi
My son would like to start fishing with me so I am looking for advice on a good spot for spinning / float fishing that is safe and accessible. I have tried Camden fort (just behind the GAA ground) but lost a lot of gear there and also ballycotton pier but this was not ideal as it was really busy. I live in Glanmire so anywhere Cork harbour, Cobh, roches point, Crosshaven.....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For mackerel you could try the deep water quay in cobh or monkstown pier but its still a bit early for them yet
Paddies point can also be good down by the navy base for them, you could also try fountainstown off the rocks for pollock and mackerel

have a look here,
http://www.fishinginireland.info/sea/southwest/cork.htmits the end of the road when you go through ringaskiddy, left would take you over the bridge to the naval base, left takes you to the crematorium. There are a few spots there to try aswell, left/right at the start of the bridge.

Try some float fishing on Ballycotton pier over high water by the ice plant. The bashers don't seem to wander up that far. Ragworm is the best bait.
The back of the railway station by the pedestrian bridge in Cobh is safe and should turn up some mackerel over high water.
