small rods?

hi, i was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a rod out there that breakes down to about a foot long, telescopic or multi-sectioned. Doesn't need to be strong just handle fish of a pound or less, it wont need to be able to cast much just droped down pier or rocks.
One probably doesn't exist but thought I may as well ask.

i think fox are doing one which is multisectioned(around 6 of) think its about 11 1/2 - 12ft??

The ones kissmywrasse and i use are shakesphere ugly stik kids spinning rods ,great craic but hard to get the hold of ,they break down to 2 sections bout 2 feet long ,i recently lost mine of ballycastle pier along with the reel :cry: ,wasn't able to find one localy so i cut the butt section of a old spinning rod just above the handle and slotted the top section down inside ,wored ok so far ,its a bit like a mini boat rod of 1 lb class :lol: you can pick up good shimano corvalus baitcasting multipliers on e-bay for about 30 quid .
If anyone knows of somewere to get the wee shakesperes let us know .

There are a number of options. Shimano have brought out the Mini tele-spin series. Collapses down to 30cm. They actually do 4 in the range, but I've only seen one in UK online shops (eg Harris sportsmail, under ultralights). The smallest, which I fancied, only seems to be available in Italy and Holland (Shimano Exage STC mini tele spinning TEXMTS180L).

Prices are peculiar too: The one available from Baumans comes in at 78(?) whereas they run at around the 50 mark in Italy and 53 in Holland. Baumans told me that Shimano wholesale price was higher in Ireland than the UK (still dearer than Italy), and he can't buy from anyone else.....and he can't get the one I want at any price....BUT I have Italian Friends

Another option is the Daiwa (USA) Heartland trout series - they do a 4 piece, 5'6'' spinner. Can buy from US Tackle Direct - $40 + P&P

Find a garden centre that sells gnomes - see if they will sell you the rod without the gnome :D

thanks for those suggestions lads. What I am really looking for is somethig that will fit in a rucksack so a bit over a foot would fit nicely. :)

havent checked about yet for the shakespeares but if you are looking a quick fix mini rod ...well 7ft equal 2 piece one ... try glasgow angling centre ...okuma scuba booster........only£10! i seen them when i was over at it last month and got one for my mate to use on his boat for sport fishing pollack etc.think it was rated for around 2oz.multicoloured quivertip style about 1mm thick at very tip.....at least at that price u could afford to lose it! :lol: :wink:

The shimano mini is a proper rod, and it would fit in a rucksack or even the cars glove compartment:

alot of fly rods break down into 2ft sections I also Have a really crappy shakespeare telescopic that is a foot long so yes they are out there. Friend of mine has a shimano telescopic that goes down to 3ft that could be strapped to the side of a rucksack.

Thanks again. Neil that rod looks great for what I want thanks.I think I would prefer the heavier version of it to with casting weight10-30g. I was wondering if you know if a normall spinning reel would be ok for this. It seems far more suited to a baitcaster but would it handle a spinning fixed spool as the light weight baitcasts are fairely expensive.

Henry's have it in stock but its 89 euro and its rrp is 39.99 stg. They also suggested a reel of about the same price but this combo is too expensive for me. Hoping I can get it somewhere else a bit cheaper.

According to Shimano, "The best reel size for this range is the new 750 size Symetre or Sedona".

The Sedona is around STG 45, but you might find it cheaper (around 40 stg). The Symetre works out at around 65. You needn't go with shimano - Okuma do a range of light and ultra light reels that would go on the STC mini tele spin.

But don't buy in Ireland!

Col, forgot to mention that the sedona & symetre are both FS reels. The okuma FS reel size you should look for would be the 15 or even 10 size. I have an Ispiron 15, 12 ball bearings, a Rolls Royce of a reel but at a price (US$ 90). The problem is that most suppliers in the uk don't do the smaller reel sizes and I bought in the US; unless you asked a UK supplier to order it in for you. Baummans told me he couldn't buy the Insipron 15 wholesale for the price I paid in the US.

Thanks again Neil. I've emailed loads of places trying to get one or two questions about it answered and rang some shops but have had no proper answer. :cry: Only ones around here that currently have it are Henry's.
Didn't want to ask you again as youv'e allready been great and didn't want to seem lazy ... but .. I know I allready asked this, but the reals shimano and you suggest are too dear for me as are most of the light/small fixed spools ( appart from possably theCortland Cx Ultralite ) . Will a normall sized reel fit on the reel seat? And do you know about how big the tube it comes with is?
Will almost certainly buy this rod.

P.S. Ronald if your looking for a virtually indesructable small rod you could get a shakespear mg easispin.They are also only £10stg.I have one thats about 5-6ft and it's great.

Cheers col i'll look into that . As for a reel ,we used to use tiny closed face casting reels that came with the original kits ,i loaded mine up with 8lb braid and you could cast stuipdly small baits easily .
The last shimano i bought of e-bay was a corvalus 301 ,got it for $35 from a guy starburymytalk ,quick delivery and no problems with the reel ,it was brand new never out of the box . he regulary has reels posted . normal retain price is £60 .

The Fox Trek series may do for your needs, it breaks down in to 6 pieces and has a sturdy tube to carry it in which will easily fit into a ruck sack.
