Hi all,
Planning to head to Ennereilly beach (or thereabouts) on Sat afternoon and stay fishing till Same time Sunday, I have Paul Mason from this forum dropping me 80 rag and 40 lug on Friday evening and I have about 8 frozen macs in the freezer from last years catch.
Questions: 1. Is this the best choice of venue ? (15-20 miles further south would be my limit)
2. Do I "need" to source some peeler ? (I know its closed season for Bass)
3. Does anyone wanna join me? I am fine alone at night on a beach but I know some get nervous, so if you prefer company then tag along. Your welcome to comment or pm me.
4. Can anyone give me a checklist of things not to forget or add to my kit I have the fishing gear / food and clothing organised but any "odd ball" things that I might not have thought of?
Thanks.
Ps. rods = 2 extractors, reels = 2 Ian golds surf 8000s fs, Shelter - ig igloo. if your looking for me!!!!

Ok ive found ballymoney on the maps, how safe is the car overnight and is fishing on the beach tolerated by other beach users during daytime. Anyone wanna throw up a map/picture of Ballymoney with a suitable spot marked for parking / fishing?

parking near to beach 100yds you can see your car if u fish straight out no problem with other beach users if u stay close to tide line take exit 23 on n11 and head for courtown about 3km there is a sign post for ballymoney on the left follow the road and u will past the orphan girl pub on the right about i km further on there is a sign post for ballymoney beach to the right enjoy and dont forget your headlamp i hope to be in the area if i am will pop in to say hello

Fish the beach at the car park as most people seem to go to the second beach further down (out of view of the car park). Had an argument with a guy there last year when fishing in daylight even though I'd positioned myself well to the left and was set-up and fishing before he arrived. 3/4 of a beach isn't enough for some people

I had a couple of other location suggestions by pm, but I have 4 young kids at home and a missus of course, so the old diesel money budget only gets me so far outta Dublin. So Ballymoney it is.
Leaving Dublin about 2pm so should be setup fishing by 4pm easy. If anyone wants to join in for a nights fishing and a few sausages I'm your man.
Never fished this beach before so any tips on tides / rigs / distance / bait etc very welcome.
Thanks,
Pat.

Fish a large crab bait at distance for the hounds rising tide at night is best but in saying that I have had them at all states of the tide on this beach its also worth trying smaller baits on another rod for flats and if any bass are landed make sure to return them safely

Great fresh as you can get Bait and good advise for Ballymoney beach has been delivered (thanks Paul).

Hopefully a catch report coming soon!

I will surely return any Bass caught but have not ever yet got one anyway, I dont "target" them as I dont get the Opportunity to do much beach fishing so its been a case of clipped down rigs thrown out to the doggies and anything else is a bonus.
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend for a change.

Good chance myself and a couple of other lads from here will be giving it a shot tomorrow evening.
Gunning for Hounds and Ray and either going to fish Clones or Ballymoney
HT seems to be 9pm going by the Courtown tide tables dont think there is much between them but i am open to correction.
Been a tough 12 months with sod all to be caught and i really think a bad session tomorrow will end up with me retiring from fishing permanently.
Nice to see Paul Mason getting a bit of business in 30 years of fishing i dont think i have ever met a nicer bloke and if i didnt collect my own bait then i would be on the phone to him in an instant.
Hope to see you tommorow but please try to leave a fish or 2 for us

Might be worth a try.

ballymoney is a good beach to fish you may get a few hounds and flats, best to use crab baits at distance for the hounds on a pully rig and a 2 hook flapper on your other rod in close with worm baits for flats

Tally so far 3 Smoothhound pups, 2 dogs, 1 tiny Dab

Turned out to not be a full 24hr stint
I lost the will to continue about 3am and lay back in the shelter for an hour, then a few more casts just brought more doggies so I packed up and had a snooze in the car possibly to reset at about 6am. but when i woke stiff and sore I decided just to head for my bed.
Good lot of other fishermen on the beach all night, i met a few from here.
The tally from earlier was only added to by multiple Doggies, loads of them about.
Overall a good night out, nice to meet a few "usernames" to put a face on them. and lovely weather for a change.
Hope too meet more "usernames" soon.
Thanks for putting me on the right track everyone.
