Hi Mull. In general most marks will fish better during darkness but there are no hard and fast rules. I've had good sessions in bright sunlight and blanks in darkness at all times of the year  Just get to know your own local area by getting out and fishing when you can and then comparing results between daylight and darkness. Take note of surf conditions, temperature, wind direction etc too and build up a profile of the area so you can target when is good to fish. That said, sometimes you just have to get out there even when you know there's little chance!

And just to add to SW point watch for the tide times normally 2/2.5 hours before highwater and 2 hours after highwater on the drop if the water moves not like the east coast

By the way welcome to the site and enjoy, the lads on here will give you a lot of help if you ask for it. What part of the country are you in and what mark where you fishing as I am sure some of us have fished it and could give you advice on it or surrounding marks :)

Hard luck Mull. Just remember that every time you get out it's knowledge in the bank.
I should have mentined yesterday too, keep the hook sizes and baits smallish as most beach caught fish wouldn't be huge, maybe that's just me though  . Size 2-1/0 hooks should do the job with slivers of mackeral or sandeel and maybe try to get some fresh worm baits too.

fish lehinch will become near impossible soon as the fairweather surfers invade. stick to night high tides usually 2 hours up and 2 down but yiu will have to follow the water and work that out for yourself. fresh lug will take the most fish but after a storm razor produces bigger fish. dont bother trying to dig lehinch for worm or cregg. There is good digging to be had at quilty
