Hi, I am staying between these two places late April/Early May for a couple of weeks.
Does anyone have any tips on what I species of fish I might expect to be around during this period please?
Also any good, easy to reach venues between these two places?
Thanks in advance

Down at the main pier in Golleen there is a way you can get down to the rocks looking out to sea. I've seen a few locals fish from there. In that area from the boat I've had whiting, dabs, flounder and the odd thornback.
Heading over towards barleycove/mizen head there is a tidal lake, have had a few dabs there. You'll also see mullet on the right hand side of the bridge.
Going into barleycove beach on the left , cockle I think its called, have had the odd dab/flounder.
If you find out any more I wouldnt mind knowing myself as I'll be heading that way again in May.

Plenty to catch but you gotta work at it! On the North side of the Mizen there is a pier called toor pier, you can drive to the top and walk down but keep away on spring tides! Plenty decent Pollack here and I have had a fir few decent conger on mackerel baits, also loads of fun with light gear picking of ballan wrasse. Barley cove itself is a bit hit n miss, it has plenty of gullies and should yield more Bass than it does but I have had a few decent ones, mainly from Chimney cove, just next beach. Plenty flounder and dabs on small worm baits if that's your thing and as was mentioned earlier, if you like catching mullet there's plenty to be found by the causeway, especially in warmer weather.
Just a point here though, there's nowhere to buy any frozen bait in the area so u will have to sort that out before you come down this way, some good lug digging places. Also you get a few thornbacks around the rock island mark. Hope this helps. Tight lines.

Well the holiday is coming to an end, not as much fishing as I had hoped for, and even less fish when I did get a line wet! Big thanks to AlfieBass, who met me for a session at Barley Cove, which ended up with a couple of decent size flounders, a few attempts at float fishing and spinning from the rocks at the cottage, only catches on these short and brief session was either the rocks or the kelp!! One short session Doonan Pier, where again more rocks than fish caught, and a solitary dogfish for my troubles. Thanks also to Catchalot for his help in keeping me in contact with Alfiebass whilst out here. I have intentions to fish one last time on Friday, but the weather isn't looking too good. So if anyone local to Goleen is out Friday and wouldn't mind me tagging along, let me know where and when please?
