Hi ray biggest tides tend to be around 4.2m for highs and a •00 for lows. The 4m+ high spring tides dont always lead to a very low •00 tide 0r close even

Wind direction can affect the tide. Is there a low pressure moving off, or moving in?
Is there activity incoming from the Atlantic? Water mass hitting shallow ground?
Time and tide are the only constants in the equation?

you just missed very low tides,,keep an eye on the new moon lows till april,,after that the full moon lows will be lower,,,its all about time and judgement,,,i cant rightly remember but the morning tides might be lower than the afternoon or vice sa versa ,,,this will change too in april,,
and go the opposite,,,,(evening being lower)

Are you familiar with the online tide prediction sites such as http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EASYTIDE/Ea ... onLength=7 ?
As others have mentioned there are various climatic factors which can affect what actually happens in a given spot but the biggest variable I have found is down to your mark's distance from the port for which the prediction is made . The height won't be much different but the timing can be and this can lead to a false conclusion .

To be honest i check the tides and from experience the last few weeks the tides have not dropped off as far as normal but as i said .I dont fish this mark at this time of year but will have a look at the above ...

Best thing to do is get a local tide booklet or keep an eye on easytide . Last monday/tues the tide dropped the lowest ive seen so far this year •00, although spring tides are used to descride the bigger cycles around new/full moon throughout the year the biggest ranging tides do occur mostly during spring but the weather can add or minus the range of all tides i.e storm surges and wind direction

if you have a smart phone go to this link and download for the next few months.
http://www.sailing.ie/Racing/Tides/TidesCork.aspx
its very handy to have on the phone as you dont need internet reception to check them. i dont bother with easytide as it gave me wrong times and sizes on a few occasions and it will only give tides for a few days.

dont know if this is relevant or not but its worth a read. it was posed by another member a few years ago.i never knew about it and im sure a lot of others didnt either

as a result of recent safety concerns and near misses by anglers ive decided to post this for those who dont quite understand the tidal cycle fully..now some fellow anglers will know the following but many will not...keeping it simple,we all know its roughly 6 hrs to fill and 6hrs to empty give or take, depending on weather and lunar variations, but its the flow rate which needs to known by anglers to ensure their safety.the tidal flow rate is divided into 1/12 over the whole cycle.. ie 1st hour 1/12. 2nd hour 2/12. 3rd hour 3/12. 4th hour 3/12. 5th hour 2/12. 6th and last hour to hw 1/12. as you can see from the above figures half of the whole cycle comes in in just 2hrs,this is where anglers misjudge the incoming tide and get caught out, hours 3 and 4 are the most critical in terms of safety, its easy to think its advancing at roughly the same flow rate over the whole tide, and if anyone tries to gague the rate not knowing these figures it could spell disaster. estuarys are a particular danger the larger river fed ones being the most dangerous, as the tide advances it must be remembered the estuary is now being filled from both ends, the incoming tide often splits the incoming river sending fresh water channels down both sides of the estuary causing backfilling, the ankle deep water you waded through earlier is now waist deep.the chinese cockle pickers in morecambe a notable reminder. remember you have a couple of rods a beta box, tripod, bait buckets and waders on,and coupled with increased volume and knot rate is now a death trap, keep the above figures in mind at all times, never go fishing without consulting the weather forecast or reading the tide table for that particular day,it might just save your life

the biggest spring tides of the year always happen around patricks day, even if they show the same on a tide book for other times of the year, these are in fact the biggest always with second biggest always coming at the end of september.

water from rivers can affect this locally also its frightening the amount of water that can travel down a big river ask anyone in cork or the esb !
