Hey was talking to the bro today and we decided to add smooth hound to the species list this year, wondered if someone could give us a couple pointers, ie where, time of year and bait?

Hi Nicholas, Smoothound are mainly if not exclusively caught on the east coast from north Dublin as far down as south Wexford. The best bait is undoubtly crab, but rag and squid is a decent back up if you can't get any crab. Smoothound season starts around May and lasts until September, with June and July the peak months. A good consistent beach to try is Courtown in Wexford, and when choosing you sessions look out for a big tide and fairly calm conditions. Pulley rigs with fairly big hooks ranging from 2/0 to 5/0 are popular, with 3/0 being the perfect size in my opinion
