Anyone ever fish in Portugal

The job is taking me to Portugal till the end of the summer. Will be in Lisbon, was wondering if anyone has an experience fishing in the area. Wondering what to expect and what gear to bring. Will do the internet thing but was seeing if anyone else has had a go.

Fished near Leira last year in the World Club championships,,,fantastic fishing ,...if you like catching small weavers ! pants for much else although I am assured that when conditions are right it can be good with bream and bass. saying that ...did see a Bass around 15-20lb that a local guy had caught spinning withy red gills in a local estuary at low tide ( i mean low like less than 3ft water ) and it seems that it was the hot place ...loads of anglers all doing the same thing.

beaches are a mixture of deep and shallow sandy venues which always seem to have a surf and loads of tide rips etc ... holdin out is a problem we had to use pyramids and quite big too up to 200g plus !

fairly light rigs are the order of the day there .
Bait - we used red rag, sardine and another mini rag worm that we dont see over here .

there were a also the odd sole and small turbot in amongst the weavers and v small bass we caught. we fished in May I am informed that it can be better in autumn but dont quote me

was there around May myself this year.
Went on a boat trip out of villamoura - 50 quid a head & it was terrible!
The crew had the best of gear + razorfish as bait, the rest of us had
awful delapidated gear + cockles.
The crew caught lots of small species, the rest of us got feck all...
EVERYTHING that was caught was killed regardless of size.

I got one mackeral & one scorpian type thing in 5 hrs.

Saw garfish being caught off piers + noticed locals jigging for squid from the shore.

Doesn't sound to promising. Will be in Lisbon probably till Sept. 06 so maybe I'll have some luck as I may be able to get dialled in by the locals. Will report back in a few to tell anyone who cares what's up, maybe a reference for anyone in the future.

Fished from Lisbon(ish) all the way up the coast to nearly the Northern most part of the country. Hoped for bass but not a one was caught. Tons of mullet that were incredibly hook shy - bought some size 10s and 8s, but never got to use them. Caught a variety of small things that I had no idea what they were from a couple of beaches, on squid. Best result was a couple of light spinning rods at 17 euro each (carbon!)

Some locals took pleasure in lifting 2-3 oz fish with poles.

Tried to organise a boat trip to no avail.
