Weak Links suitable for casting.

Can anyone recommend a system whereby I can tie in a weak link to my lead that can be cast 100 yards plus? Had problems losing fish to close in reefs at "De Wall" recently when the lead snagged. Usually use pulleys for rough ground which seems to help but isn't fool proof either. Where I usually fish its bound to be full of line snags as well as the reef.

try the gemini rotton bottom clips.we use them for our huss fishing and find them brilliant. can whack a 6oz lead 80-90 yards with them with out and trouble. if ya can't get them try the sea match ones.

Gemini do a weak link that locks the lead in place with a pin through a button. It works... and tie the weak link between the lead and main line.

Mike Thrussel shows up a good way of doing it - he puts a loop at the bottom of the trace instead of a ring, and with a pliers bends out the eye in a lead to form an inverted L. Snell knot this to the main line with the weak link, delicately place the inverted L into the loop and centrifugal force will keep it there while casting. It falls out (most of the time) on the retreive leaving you with only the weak link holding the lead. Works.

Finally there are wedge shaped leads that act like lead lifts. odd but they work and you can make them at home without too much difficulty.

i'd have to recommend the gemini genie breakers, imho they are the best rotten bottom system you can buy and cast safely every time, they may need replacing after using a few times as the plastic disc may break or one of the pins get bent out of shape... for the sake of 40 pence each!!!
i have no worries about using them and hitting the cast as hard as i do without them, they havent let me down yet.

Much as it pains me, will have to agree with Phil - go with the Gemini links.

Tried the Sea Match ones but personally didn't think they were as good.

when fishing over rough ground we use normal bomb weights that have been flattened with a hammer. being flat the faster you wind in the quicker they raise in the water

used the seamatch ones quite a bit. personally i find them to be rubbish, whilst good anglers rate them as excellent. i don't like em at all. i have had them fly off during mid flight(strange!) and then not do what they are supposed to when snagged. i am gonna go with the gemini ones. they seem fool proof.

Have any of you tried the breakaway ones . They are suitable for power casting and i have yet to have one open for me during a cast. I have tried the gemini and didnt like them. I found the breakaway system more aerodynamic and better casting very neat and tidy. Theres no need for lighter line or loose line hanging about like other weak link systems .
