winter bass fishing in cork

hi folks,

last summer (2012) i did my 1st summers bass fish on the beaches around cork after years of rock fishing and absolutely loved it. had some good luck and caught some beauties along the way as well. i haven't fished now for a few months with the weather and am dying to get back into it asap. i find the cod fishing in monkstown abit boring to be honest. is it even worth my while heading to the beaches now in the depths of winter??? and also i only know of 1spot down by kinsale to dug the lugworm. can anyone help me with a few more? would really appreciate it.

thank you :D

The Beaches in East Cork especially Garryvoe,Ballinawilling and Ballycrennane produce Bass every winter you should also get some lug there too.

Hi rodrebel, during the wintertime you need to be very aware of weather patterns and water temperature. You need to try to concentrate your efforts during the milder periods or at least during settled weather. This time of year the temperature can vary from below freezing to 13 or 14 degrees. Bass can be caught in very cold weather but they do not like sudden drops in temperature. The best of all is a big jump in temperature coupled with a spring tide. I'm not sure why, but lug worm seems to outfish other baits when the water is cold. At the end of December the only bait that the bass would take was lug and even though there were plenty bass around other baits including fresh peelers were ignored. In recent years Kerry has fished very well in February and I'm sure Cork should do the same. All we need is some "sensible " weather. Best of luck.

Had Bass to 8 pounds on crab a couple of weeks before Christmas in East cork. It's definitely worth a cast :)
