Sad to hear that it's gone so bad,I lived down in cork about 10 years ago and fished the ringaskiddy area all the time ,my average catch was about 4 bass between 3-5 lb ,with the odd one up to 7-8lb,and I was lucky enough to get two 10lb+,and no I'm not making it up the fishing was that good, some evenings they were breaking like mini shoals of macks, really sad to hear as I was always hoping to get down there again, but I do remember all of a sudden the place being packed when previously there would only have been 2 or 3 at most ,and a lot of the time it was just me,I wonder who spilled the beans?

It's sad alright especially when u say it was that good eoghan
I think it's the usual lads who fish for the bass but u can get loads of people fishing for the mackerel when they are there
Everyone I talked to say it used to be great there something is wrong that's for sure

On the subject of Ringaskiddy, yes there was a time upto very recently when cracking bassing could be had especially off Paddy's Point or the 2nd bridge, but over the past few years a lot of fish have been taken out of the system by anglers of all nationalities.[just look at all the empty beer bottles etc etc around the area these days.
Also netting has been going on by two particular boats this past 2/3 years.Large amounts of fresh water running into the harbour has always had an affect on this mark and to be honest this year has'nt been the best from that point of view.Overall though talking to some local lads who fish that area, its been tough getting a spot to fish over the summer nevermind catching a bass.

If its that bad forget about it,find a new spot and take the location to your grave, you will probably see ringaskiddy mention in the guide books soon with the obligatory " occasional bass" like most of the former good spots around the country these days
