Beach/bass rod for estuaries - multiplier

Hi
May I ask You for some advice on a rod for fishing Dungarvan area? Beach, estuaries, I guess main target will be bass and codling, with some flatties? I presume that I should use crab or lugworms as a bait and pulley rig? How heavy weights should I use?
Any recomendation on rod will be welcomed, I have my old ABU C4 6501 that I want to use with this rod. 30lb braid line would be enough?
I will not be using it very often, so it don't have to be some top class, very expensive stuff, just something to have a go on a weekend, during winter, to sit with kids and spend some time outside.

first one is 2-4 oz, second is 4-8oz. Which should I choose?
Please help, as I'm completly new to such types of fishing.

Hi Standerus, for your bass and flatties a Penn Probass 11"6 2-4 oz or something similar will do the job, but for codling, ye probably will be fishing rough ground and ye will need something a bit more beefy. Also, i wouldn't recommend using braid in a multiplier, it gets tangled too easily and will give you a birds nest. Hopefully, you will get more advice from the more experienced lads here on the site..

As for the multiplier - I'm well used to it, I use them for last 7 years for pike fishing with jerkbaits, so that's not what I'm afraid.
Are the codlings sometimes found around beach?
Would 4oz lead has grip enough for tidal currents in estuaries?

If your planning monkstown your talkin 6oz plus to hold on the low and during the flood and drain nothin really holds.

So, I guess the second option, with 4-8 oz will be more practical and allow me to fish for bass, flatties and codlings through winter?
Do I need a tripod, or I can I hold rod in hand?

your better off heading down to the abbey in youghal i find it fishes better then most places in dungarven .... its only a short trip. i would know living outside dungarven myself for bass you want to hit the 3 mile stretch right at the end is prime iv been told
