Need some help...
I treated myself to a new rod but the previous owner had the reel seat very low (6 inches off the butt). I gave it a go last night and found it nearly impossible to cast a lead with it without causing a birdie. I am told that it is pretty straight forward removing the old one (Fuji fixed) and refitting further up the rod. Has anyone any advice how to do this or even better would be willing to do this for me......?
I am based Co Clare/Limerick/Loch Derg area........
Cheers
Joe

You may be holding the rod in the wrong position
http://www.gofishing.co.uk/Sea-Angler/S ... your-cast/This is known as casting down the butt
You use your left thumb to control the reel/spool and your right hand is above the reel to put the power into the cast

Cheers for the heads up lads! I presume that the one that is being removed can't be used again?
Ste if you don't mind me asking why would you fit an abu griplock?

Hey Donal thanks for the article, probably should have read it last night before heading out for a session...
Yeah I was using my left hand on the multi alright but it just felt all wrong and seriously short on distance. Might head out for another bash before getting it moved

I’m not sure what make or model of reel you are using.
On some reels you have a cap on either side of the spool that can be tightened to slow down the speed of the spool.
If you set this in such a way that when you release the lead from the tip of the rod it should hid the ground without any over run on the spool, then you have a starting point to work from.
After that it is a matter of learning a comfortable casting style and working from there.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but when you get a feel for it i can nearly guarantee you wont go back
