power pro braid knotting ability??

does this braid perform well with standard knots?? the albright knot i am using catches the rings evey now and then and causes some amazing crack-offs!! anyone used this stuff?? i don't want to make a pricey mistake. thanks.

Not a problem for me - usually a cracked ring that rips the braid to shreds on me! I do not use the Albright, I use a uni-to-uni knot especially if the lines are approximately the same diameter, or alternatively the double blood loop.

There's a US website http://www.stren.com which offers excellent advice and decent pictures, more to the point!

I have been using Berkley's braid on another reel and IMHO powerpro is miles ahead, never touching anything else from now on...

havent tried power pro yet but use spiderwire stealth on one of my fixed spools.
try a standard knot for with you would normally use for attaching shockleader and add a drop of knot glue
seems to be doing the trick so far for me!

cheers for that lads. thanks. i have been finding the braid great over rough ground where you have a height advantage! hooks bend out with a quick pull. been using an old narrow pice of drain pipe to break out when things are really stuck. it works a treat. fighting fish is a joy too. i have used it on the multiplier but it's a harsh on the thumb when reeling in if any sand gets onto the braid. it cuts too! think i'll ring a rod for fix spool as i have been using the fixed spool on my multiplier rod and the bulky mono/braid knot is catchin occasionally. normally not a problem with mono.

i want to try 20lb. braid on my fixed spool with the K2. i can only imagine how far it's gonna go! the long range plaice fishing in spring is gonna made really easy!! ooh and the smoothhound that'll be a good laugh!!!

I'm using the powerpro 20lb on a big surfcasting fixed spool with a 13ft Abu. Distances are immense, but can't for the life of me cast into even a light onshore breeze.
If you find out the knack, please let us know...

just be careful which situations you use it in, due to its directness. possibly if using it for the likes of smoothies you would be best advised to have your drag and clutch well set or you might say bye bye to your rod!!
have definately noticed an increase in distance while using 30lb braid compared to 15 or 18lb mono on the fixed spool. its great in calm seas but i dont like using it in any kind of strong surf or onshore wind as i find the wind and wave pressure on the line pushes your lead back towards shore and makes it slightly more difficult to hold bottom.

ahh i agree Phil i just want it for the calm days! smoothies, plaice, flounder and long range dabs- that sort of thing...don't you worry the ratchet will be set!

casting into on onshore wind requires you to punch your cast lower into the wind. this stops the wind catching your braid cause its kept under pressure all during the cast, you dont get a curved flight path but a more linear one. this takes a bit of practice, best with a ground cast style, and releasing your weight at 10o'clock during the cast.

i use the uni knot too, nice and neat and good strength. find power pro a joy to use have it on all my lure rods (sea and pike) and its great for hauling up conger too

i know most of you will know anyway , but if you are tangled with another angler whilst using braid and they are on mono just go a bit easier as the braid will slice through a tensioned mono. forgot about that at the weekend . . . .oops!
