Bass, Dublin/Meath/Louth

Thu Oct 11, 2012 8:08 pm

I tried this a few weeks ago with a more simple question and got what I should have expected as an answer.... Please, if you have any answers that you think are funny, they're most likely not and I for one dont want to hear them....

So, my question was was anyone catching Bass in the above locations??

I'm not looking for your secret spots, I just want to know is anyone catching and how many, have you noticed any change in the number you've experienced, because I know I have.

I fish regularly on Gormanston beach, not one of the best Bass beaches in the country I'll agree but I've had some great nights there in the past and only a few years ago blanks rarely if ever happened. In the last two weeks alone I have had four blanks in what I would consider ideal conditions; nice swell, not too much, high water coinciding with dusk.

I'd love to hear if the rest of you are experiencing the same!

Chris,

I'd love to chat about this topic with you, but I'll be typing all night, prob better if you give me your number and we have a chat tomorrow afternoon. I'm a passionate angler, and love the art of fishing, all facets of it. I've been studying the osi coast maps of Louth/Meath/Dublin for the past 2 years and have invested serious amonts of hours trying to catch bass on the locations that I've spotted, to no avail I should add. This has not discouraged me one little bit.
Fishing to me is all about the anticipation, it's 90% anticipation and 10% catching in my experience fishing the Meath/Louth/Dublin coast (with flies & lures), I genuinely enjoy the anticipation almost as much as the catching! I get better every time I'm out, and I know I'm increasing the odds of catching each time I'm out trying. The missus thinks I'm cracked! getting up at 5am, coming home saying I've had a great morning but not caught anything! she might even be onto something.
I caught a bass on the Boyne two Spring tides ago, on the fly, an amazing experiece (even though he threw the fly at the last moment, BAD BUZZ :( )
I believe that sharing the knowledge responsibly with sensible, conservational minded people is a good and positive thing, PM me your number and i'll call you over the weekend to have a chat about it.
I've found that unless you PM people directly for information on this site that you won't get any replies to posts on advice about marks. You can't really blame them in light of the poor fishing here at the moment, and the morons out there that are killing everything that they catch......

Got 4 over the summer in this area. That's after putting in a lot of hours. Got about the same previous couple of years. Started keeping a diary and going to make sure if I find likely marks that i've fished them in all different tides and conditions before writing them off. I'd be interested to hear how other people have done also, if only to convince me that good numbers of fish can be caught if you put the time in to work out the marks. I've never travelled down to Wexford etc to fish for Bass. I really like the idea of working out local marks even if it does mean lots of blanks along the way.

There is a few fantastic areas on this part of the coastline for bass fishing, but i would say that those that know them will not make them public.
eg, one area that i have fished more or less alone for the last 5yrs, you cannot get a spot on now after its location was broadcast all over another website. I have now seen undersized fish and exceeded bag limits taken from this mark and all from Irish lads, and theres no point talking to them, same crap, plenty of fish in the sea, who gives a fu*k etc, its only a few for the tea    But glad to say the fisheries have now starting showing up after a lot of bitching from myself and a few friends. So although i would gladly offer some tips to anyone i think is genuine, i would also tell anyone one else to put in the hours that myself and lots of other lads from this site and beyond have put in and enjoy the thrill of the chase.

With them easterly winds and that nice surf today is as good atime as any to try for a bass.
