Hi guys I'm new to this (as I'm sure you worked out from subject). Im down in cork and asked in local tackle shop if I should do float fishing or not. I was told to stick to bottom fish at this time of year. Ok question is why this time of year? When is the best time to float fish? Not fussed wot I catch really, tho wouldn't mind catching another bass. What fish could I expect to catch with both methods? Sorry for the lots of questions. Like I said I'm a newbie. All help gratefully received.

Fishing is Fishing,so there is no answer to any question!...you will either catch or blank!

It all depends on what species you hope to catch and what kind of ground wou are fishing. If fishing off rocks for wrasse, pollack bass etc then either will work but if the ground is very snaggy then a float will end with less tackle loss. If the ground is clean with sand and the odd rock then legering will be fine.
Theres something about watching a float bob about thats just nice tho.
If your very new to fishing you could consider joining a club, you will learn more from chatting and watcthing lads at a few comps than you you can imagine.

I agree with Red here. Your best bet is to find out what the ground you are fishing is like. Once you know this you will be able to determine what rig you are going to use for each spot. If you are after Bass I'd say your best bet is using a few lures.

Always ground for me 100% if you are on a beach or estuary. If in a snaggy rock mark floats may be best although I still go for the ground and sacrifice a bit of gear. Best way is to try all methods untill you find what best suits you, but my advice is start with the ground. Best of luck
