Forecasting Swell....?

Hi I am looking for a bit of help in forecasting the swell size. I have fished a few marks lately when there has been a light onshore wind but the swell has made the marks unfishable. I would like to know if there is anyway of predicting this information prior to driving for an hour and finding a mark unfishable.....

ya just done go to big surf beaches after heavy seas for a few days unless they go down quicker due to wind directional change,keep an eye on the weather for wind direction especially betewwn the N and W,,these winds tend to lift the sea up.i find the wind that is between these two N/W is the fircecest.when i see heavy seas coming i always tend to fish the beaches that require these seas to lift the surf but its hard to beat the surf big surf beaches after the heavy seas calm down as the fish go crazy for food

Cheers for that SPB but the difficulty is that I live one hour from the coast and dont have the time to do a quick trek to the beach. It would be great to know in advance if the mark is fishable.... last time I was out there was hardly a breeze and the swell was crazy. The week before it was fresh winds and the mark was fishable....!? As I am fishing rock marks at the minute the swell size is seriously important info.

A fella mentioned that the surfing webites give this info..?

I live in Dublin and I used to use magicseaweed when I was heading West for a bit of surfing! I found it bang on!

provides information about waves. But I cannot tell how accurate it is : in my part of the world there isn't much surf.

use this one,,, www.boards.ie put a topic up for someone to shout you who lives near the beach and ask them for info on it,,is there a surf,weed lying around the edges,,seagulls diving,,wind and weather conditions etc,,,you will be surprised but id nearly bet you 100 quid that someone will reply from that area or nearby,,,,i use it all the time but thats me,,,hate having to drive for a 1-2 hours,going chasing bass and landing there and it unfishable,,,,no wonder my bass count is it up this year ,,ching ching

I use the magic seaweed app but just as good is the lahinch surfing app.

Lahinch surf shop has a streamed camera looking at the strand 24/7/365 which is great, not only for lahinch but also all of the beaches up the coast too!
