which multiplier

fishing awhile now and thinking of changing to a multiplier.which one? abu _ penn _ diawa. dont mind spending the money .i fish with a 13ft 4in anyfish anywhere + can u recommend a good retailer.thanks.

abu mag reels are the best for clean ground ive been using a mag elite for 12 years without any problems and i highly recommend them.for rough ground go for a penn multiplier oh an by the way get the abu mag in the 6500 size .these reels are being produced for decades and have changed very little in that time - why change what works ?

Dont buy a red high speed abu..soft as shite...get the one with the brass end plates..the gun metal colour ,the penn is first class choice for mixed to rough ground or for ' haulin and draggin..never used Daiwas but the Daiwa mag comes well recomended.but heard a few lads saying it dosnt like hardship......watch the reaction to that. . ah fcuk it ,stay wid the fixed spool..

i would recommend for your first one a penn 525 (bigger spool), r 515 (smaller spool), there a great reel cant fault em can be used any where really, yes there a great rough ground reel, but also they will just about do for everything a very good all rounder imo, can be used great on charters and are easy enuff to get used to, as in understanding the mags etc........i would also recommend to go out with a friend that uses multi's to give you a few tips.....also a great reel aswell are the akios ctm 656 great value for money much cheaper than the abu's and penn, but really its down to urself i have one of each of the reels mentioned and i love em all......started out with the 525 then got an abu tsr, and now i have an akios, and i switch in between them all for all different venues etc.......but starting with the 525 was a great introduction to multi for me anyway.......just to add i really cant fault any of these reels for real problems if you look after them........

you cant really beat a daiwa 7ht mag, straight out of the box problem free and fairly hard to birdie unless your alby

i got the daiwa 7ht turbo, some lads suggested it was too quick for a beginner
but i have to say i really like it. didnt start out too good but i have no one to learn off.

im about a month into using it now, only had one birds nest which was my own fault for
setting the brakes too loose so i would recommend it{and youtube for casting tips }

did you get a red 7ht ??? as these reels dont have" brakes " they have brake blocks?? the windy knob on the side is for spool adjustment from side to side?

an abu with mag brakes and brake blocks is a good reel to learn with ,buy a second hand one in good nick ,then if you dont get on with it you can flog it on without loosing a fortune ,the hit you would take buying a new one would buy you a half decent fixed spool!!(the older abu,s are a better buy than the newer ones )

I started with an abu sportsmag and found it great so got a second but the only drayback is their best suited to clean ground . Ive got a penn 515mag2 recently and its great but is quicker than the abus so im gently easin of the mags but no issues yet .

Abu's are fool proof as said above don't get the hi-speed and the 7ht are starting to give problems ull see a lot off them for sale soon

ya i have the red one,i thought that was for adjusting the amount of pressure on the brakes as there is no levelwind on these.i definitely need a few lessons as i still have a hell of alot to learn but i do like my new setup i have to say

if you open up the reel (the three stickey out screws) on the handle side you will see how many or if any brake blocks are in the reel ,you can get bigger or smaller to slow down or speed up the reel ,also the use of thicker or thinner oil in the spool bearings can do the same

Hi, the diawa millionere 7ht is a great casting reel I have been fishing with it for the last 14 years still using it & never had a birds nest. I recently bought a Abu 6500 premium ct mag reel & also casts great there's not much in casting distance between the 2 reels. Hope this helps

ya i would have the diawa millionaire 7ht or even a slosh 20 or 30 myself if i was choosing,,,,i have the 30 and love it,,,have a 525mag xtra too but would have the slosh over it anyday,,,,the slosh has brake blocks so once in they find their own position,,,where as the the magnets in the 525,,,when you have them installed,,,and if you let the reel fall you can disturb and put these magnets out of place and being an inexperienced multiplier user this can lead to DISASTER

The black version is great option . To be honest . I get that . As it more scratch resistant .

I've used everything over the years. For heavier work I would use the Slosh over the 525 but that's just personal preference. Both are tough durable reels. If castings your thing then a tuned 65 is a dream. I love mine. Hard to control if you're a beginner though so you just need to watch it a bit. The 7ht is one of the best reels ever made. They're tough as old boots . I've had the same one since 1991. It's banged up and scratched to bits. The star drag is bent as is the handle and yet it still casts like a dream. Unless you're a complete numpty you won't have much trouble casting with a 7ht. As someone mentioned earlier, with a little practice, they're practically birdie proof. If you ever get a chance to buy a Shimano Speedmaster then pick it up. Really good reel with a 6:1 ratio I think. Always worth looking out for on the 2nd hand market.

Sorry I ment the newer 7ht Mag are starting to give trouble but as the lads say I beleve the older ones are bullet proof

I know these are a great reel I have one myself , but I have heard a good few people saying that the free spool button is getting stuck on, and it has happened with my one too, I look after all my gear and often clean and service my real so was able to sort it but I think it's starting to happen again i think I'll just stick to the Abu's
