i have fished the bluepool in portrush about 4 times in the last 5 days and havnt got or seen 1 mackeral. having fished portrush on and off for about 20 years i have to say this is the worst mackeral year by far...but Y is this..? is it just to do with the weather being poor..?

i'd love to tell you that the weather was the cause and it has been prolonged bad weather but really its just that mackerel stocks are so depleted these days there is just less of them on the shore - any we have had on boats from the north are in smaller shoals and smaller fish year after year.

ramore is still chucking up a few though

I was catching macks last night off the Blue Pool using tinsel feather rigs weighted with an Abu Toby lure :) . They were biting at maximum casting range with a lure rod. Other guys were catching them using feather lures from beachcasters. Fish were caught from 8pm 'til 10pm.

Those were however the first macks I have caught this year and it being late July thats a poor show

Stocks are definately depleted, its a sad scenario :(
