Sea Trout in Donegal Bay ?

Hi

In another post about recent fishing in Donegal Bay yesterday 'leadhead' mentioned that he'd caught trout over at Mullaghmore, I know that they are caught up around Ardara also and this got me thinking. I've been fishing up at St.Johns Point for almost 4 years on a regular basis and in that time I have only ever caught Pollack, the occasional Wrasse and once last year a Bass, but never even a sniff of a Sea Trout, and I can see Mullagmore from where I fish ?

Does anyone else catch Sea Trout in Donegal Bay ? If so I'd be interested in opinions about why I've never caught one on Lure up at St.Johns Point, do they not like taking lures or is this a 'cold' spot for them for some reason ?

Seatrout tend to be in shallow areas with plenty of bladder wrack ,I'd say st.johns is too deep

Hmmm, plenty of bladerwrack......

I'm sure their is plenty of bladder wrack and kelp etc but seatrout generally are found close in shore in shallow water ,eg. Estuarys,shallow sheltered bays ,and boulder strewn areas ,trust me I've got a few over the years ,all were caught in areas less than 20 foot deep

As Eoghan says Flynn it's too deep generally on the Point, the ground there isn't really suitable to the way and what they prefer feeding on. Find some shallow sandy ground interspersed with weedy and rocky patches. Ballyshannon estuary is famous for it's seatrout fishing so you could do worse than drive over there and give it a go.
