winter fishing on the shannon

anyone got any info on fishing foynes,kilteery,glin,tarbert etc.. during the winter only managed conger and whitin last year any codling going lik? also anyone interested in night fishin for conger in tarbert giv me a shout on the e-mail ad good craic last year wit loads of fish to 20lbs

If you check the marks page on the site theres a good description of Kilteery. Night time fishing seems to be even more important during the winter when I fish for whiting, Dabs and flounder from here and in Tarbert and Foynes trailer park for conger with some fairly good fish. From my experience Glin needs a good cast at this time and fairly stout gear as it can be rougher due to silt being moved due to storms. The Clare side seems to have some good winter venues with ray still available in carrigaholt and cappa. In Clare there have been a few codling and cod caught off cappa and the rocks near the irish college from what I've heard but not in numbers. Deep water or rough ground on the sea side of the estuary seems to be the key so carrig west might be worth a shot. I've heard the carrig Island marks in general can be very good at night during the winter.

sound for the info. there, but the shore mark description of kilteery is a little off the beaten track at times i mean honestly did anyone actually catch a smoothhound there? id bet it was a small tope, that info on kilteery is out of date and needs to be upgraded but the stories of ray in cappa during the colder months is definately taken into account. cheers for that. just for the record conger eels in kilteery? ya once in a blue moon and to anybody new fishing the pier dont waste your time fishing over low water even with a good cast its way too shallow for a descent fish has to be fished at high water.

Sorry I was on about the Eoins update. The rest of the section looks like it was taken form old rfb books. I'm told there used to be conger taken form kilteery when they used to tip dead cattle over the pier. I'd agree with the guess that the smooth hound mention are actually the small tope taken here though I'm told there used to be smoothound in the estuary and I'd have my doubts about the plaice bit as flounder with spots are often mistaken for them.

ya agree wit u there alrite. ya eoins update is true alrite avent seen a huss there yet tho u? but if there at the pier they are there aswel i suppose. ya would love to catch the bolix who dumps those greyhounds over the pier wal. he doesnt realise dat when the tide goes out its uncovered and the smell. . . crabs enjoy it tho! sorry to be sniping for info but wat do u know about how foynes trailer park fishes round this time of year?tides,exact spots to fish,bait,fishweather etc. . . avent fished foynes since the closure of the pier and wat harm it was the best ray spot i ever fished.

I don't really fished Kilteery pier in the summer as I prefer fish quieter marks but have fished the lighthouse and had Small bull huss here and from what I understand these can had from the pier with distance casting.

I've fished by the marina fence from the trailer park and got conger close in at low water in darkness. There are ray in the summer with a little more distance but boats from the marina traveling in and out well into darkness make these painfull to target. The motor boat pontoon has been left unlocked and can give good conger again at low water only.

ya there are definately huss at the pier ave seen and caught them there go into double figures aswel.ya the fence by the marina have been told the rocky outcrop there is a good spot to fish, wats the bottom lik tho? yet again sound for thè info much appreciated although i should already know dis sein as i live close by.

p.s. check ure private msg for some info on kilteery and how i fish it during it the summer. if u dont already know this believe me it works ad 9 rays between 2 rods one nite on these methods and nobody else seems to know about it!
