Hello I have just seen your message now and to be perfectly honest, I would not fish there, the reasons for such, a, it is dangerous to be there alone occassionally you may have undesirable company, b, the catch is very limited by way of species, and finally it is one of the more polluted areas in cork harbour. I live not so far from there and I do know the goings on there it is not pretty my friend. I hope this helps,

I only dig bait there and was wiped out by crab on the two occasions I fished it. Both times I beat hasty retreat to Cobh. Funny you should mention the pollution because a fortnight ago when I arrived to do a bit of digging there was a guy leaving with 8 5 gallon containers filled with winkles! There were destined for retail in Douglas!!! I think the saying is "Caveat emptor" (buyer beware).

Much apologies.. I am back and I did fail to deal with your question, to get to brown Island ( that is leaving the city heading towards midleton due east) as you are driving, you are approaching the the slip road that takes you to Carrigtwohill/Cobh ( ignore this turn off ), you shall drive and notice another near identical slip road for Barryscourt castle/ Carrigtwohill, prehaps 1.5km after first slip road also ( ignore this turn off ) as you drive you will notice housing developments to you left ( Fota Rock ) a little further some private houses tucked away from the main road, at this point you should be on the fast lane indicating right to aproach the gap in the hedgery, you may notice that trucks ( John A Woods ) use this psuedo intersection alot. ( be very very careful here ) as it is not the safest having cars zooming past you on your left and you must also cross the dual carraige way , please be sure you have time to cross. when you cross the road you will drive up a secondary road after a 1 km you will notice John A Woods plant on your left, from this point you still driving straight on a very very narrow road with eventuall leads to a cross roads. Yield .... go straight on and drive for a further 2 kms you will have noticed that the road gets wider and more senic, keep going you will notice a pond in a field on your right and on your left you will notice a pretty house and entrance to a house namely 'ballintubbrid house' slow down nearly stationed take next left you should be on the short pier. bingo! yes there is meant to be good ray and flats, and NO!! you should never eat SHELL from there and if you see somebody collecting such from there you should remind that person that ther is presently legal proceedings on the burner in Brussels with regard to a certain treatment plant and the wipe out off the most productive oyster beds in europe, not a zillion miles from there, I would rather leave it at that, I would be sure that the fish may be fine to eat even though the shell are more prone to baterial complications, but not 100% sure. Thanks for the acknowledment of my contribution shanec, I hope that this has helped, also thanks to Read, just goes to show what people will do for a buck without the consisderation to those whom line their pocket, if you see that person after a warning, call the relevant authorities, you have a duty to do such. Respect to the waters.
