Reel repairs in Dublin

Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:10 am

Does anybody know anywhere in Dublin that do reel repairs? I just got a new reel last week, used it once, and got it full of sand! so i took it apart completly to get the sand out of it, which was a success actually until i put it back together, to find that the anti reverse doesnt work!!

Ive been trying all day to fix it, to no avail, so now i want to get it fixed asap for fishing the weekend

any suggestions lads?

Donal

Bring it back to were you bought it they might be able to fix it or one of the bigger tackle dealers southside maybe

What kind of reel is it,if the anti reverse isn't working you just have the ratchet in backwards ,get the parts diagram and have a good look at it ,you'll figure it out eventually :D

The shop you bought it in should replace it.

I cant imagine any shop would replace a reel that was perfect when sold and than opened and fiddled with.. As mentioned Henry is a good man for repairing fixed spools, im sure he could sort it out for you..

thanks for that mozza, i'll remember that for next time...

I got in from veals, and i didn't want to call them because it was perfect until my mistake, it wasn't their fault, and tbh
they offer a great service, I only ordered the reel Monday night last week and had it on Thursday

But for now i got it sorted :D it turns out it was a tiny spring that's on the outside of the anti reverse bearing, which had a bit of sand in it and it just wasn't springing back, meaning it was just in free spool all the time.

So its back in tip top condition and I've learned how to service a reel

glad you got it sorted donal,
it's very unusual to hear of anything getting into a fixed spool real in the first place, as they are normally well sealed up :?
