Another fish ID

Tue Jun 05, 2012 1:22 pm

Another small fish from the shores of the Aeolian Islands, Sicily.
First I though it was a Comber but looking at photos it looks more like a small Wrasse of some sort, note black spot close to tail.
Anybody any ideas?

It's a Corkwing wrasse

Apart from the black spot on the tail I didn't think it looked like a Corkwing due to its white belly and horizontal striping. It also lacks the sinuous colour patterns around the head that Irish Corkwing wrasse display.

Yes maggots, rag worms were by far the most effective bait but I also used maggots although the Bogue could whip them off the hook in a fraction of a second.

By the way I have posted up the first part of a report on the fishing http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bulletin%20board/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=39775
