Aer Lingus help!

Alright lads my fishing has gone to the dogs since I moved to Brussels, but I am back in Ireland on the 13th of June for a few days so will be out after the east Cork bass (after the ban) pollack and wrasse. Thing is I will bring my rod with me from Brussels but can anyone tell me if I need to have a proper rod case?? What I have is a length of pipe with cardboard at either ends taped up, will this do or will they freak at the airport flying with Aer Lingus Brussels-Cork

If you know the dimensions and the weight of the tube ill find out exactly how much it will be. Probably not cheap tho and if your planning on bringing it back and forth a few times it might be cheaper to buy a 2nd rod and leave it here. No chance of poxy baggage handlers breaking it either lol:grin::grin::grin:

They'll probably charge you for "sports equipment", but there shouldn't be any problem otherwise. If you're worried it might get damaged, ask for a "fragile" sticker when you check in.

I have sent a lot of rods by air and I find the best way to send them for safety is in a wavin pipe. Ian Golds gave me this information years ago and I've never had a problem . He told me to wrap the rod at intervals along its lenght with bubble wrap folded over and wound around the rod. The rod will be suspended in the tube and not touching the sides. Pack the ends with more bubble wrap and plug it with some cardboard and tape up well. It's a tried and trusted method.

Aer Lingus charge €30 each way for fishing rods if pre-booked or €40 each way if you just turn up with the rod at check-in.
As Red said you might be better off getting a new rod when you get home which you leave in Ireland for future return visits.

The wavin pipe is a great solution. I used it for rods and packed it with socks & pirks in socks for Norway - works really well, and the packing prevents stuff from moving and damaging rings.
