specimen fish claims

Looked into this as i just submitted my first claim, but now confused. The form i filled in was from the Irish specimen fish committee but one on here is for the IFSA. Are they related, the same or are there 2 different bodies who verify specimens. Also on the ISFC form if you don't have a witness you get a peace commissioner to sign it. I don't think we have them in the north. What is our equivalent.

stick with the Isfc claim . we would have to get a garda to sign it if there was no witness, you could go to the PSNI

As John says, stick with the ISFC man, think you need a competant witness for it though? Maybe one of the guys you were fishing with could do the honours? When I was claiming my Specimin Rockling just had a submit dimensions, couple of pics, and a weight coupled with a copy of the certificate for certification on the scales... I think that was it...

Does it matter which version of the manufactures you listed ?as in the smaller tube model or the bigger carp versions ?

Any scales will do once it is certified. Some cheaper scales may fail/not be accurate after a short period. As Davy points out the Reuben Heaton 7000 series and the Salter Electro Sampson are probably the two most popular digital scales and with take certification year after year.

Carrying your own certified scales means that you can weigh your fish (bass for example), take a few snaps, take a few measurements and release the fish straight away. Once your claim is sorted then nobody can suggest that that fish of a lifetime was another tall tale

As somebody wrote once: " the numbers of double figure bass have decreased dramatically...since the availability of certified scales and camera phones.."

Bought myself a set of the electro samson online from a company in Devon yesterday. Just had an email to say they are in the post. For an extra £30.00 they supplied a traceable calibration certificate.

Dont forget the ISFC will require they get re-calibrated every year...
It only cost about £25 to be done in Belfast by the Trading Standards

Yes i noticed on the certificate for the scales I was given in St Mullins that they had an expiry date.
