Glenbeigh Co. Kerry - any tips for a novice?

Hi,

I'm heading to Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry in late June for a couple of weeks on holiday. I'm living in England at the moment but used to live in Cork and remember many an evening spinning off the rocks in places like Courtmacsherry and some beach fishing in East Cork. I caught loads of weeds but also managed to fluke a 9lb bass, my PB, around 5 years ago. Oh, the memories!

Back to the point - my rod has barely seen the light of day since that balmy evening near Ballymacoda, and I'm as rusty as my old lures and spinners! So, I'll be staying near Glenbeigh and would be really grateful if anyone can provide advice for what tackle (I only have a 9ft spinning rod) I should get before I come over, and rough areas I could try out (the guides on this website are a great start). I'll have young family with me so will be making short expeditions in evenings and early mornings.. Can't wait!

Cheers, Lee

If you want to bring the family then Kells Bay is the spot a small sandy beach for the wife and kids with nice rock fishing, out on the point, at the right hand side.
Species: Mackerel, Pollack and Wrasse

The left hand side of Rossbehy might turn up a bass or two but it can be a bit weedy.

Thanks Donal, I'm looking forward to it. Do you have any suggestions for good all-round lures etc. for fishing in that neck of the woods?
