Bubble floats

I'm planning on using a bubble float around a couple of shallow marks over the summer for Bass with rag/peeler as bait. The float I have doesn't seem to be designed for the line to run through as with a sliding set up. Is it best to just tie the mainline to one side and a trace to the other and use the trace to determine the depth fished or can the float be clipped on the mainline using a snap swivel and use a stop knot to dictate the depth?

when i use bubble floats (which isnt very often due to their limitations) i thread the line though one side of it and then put a float stop either side of the float to hold it in place. that way you dont need a weight on to sink the bait, just let it float down naturally. As long as you arent fishing more than 4 or 5 foot deep casting isnt too much of a problem

Cheers for the reply, so do you reckon the bubble float is the right float for the job? I'd only be fishing the bait at 3-5 ft anyhow. I have a normal sea float too but I though the clear bubble would be a little less likely to spook the fish

Sea trout boys swear by them as they can be filled with water to keep them only just positively bouyant. That way they give less resistance during the bite and they often outfish standard floats as fish take stronger. Good for trotting long distances too. A split ring or snap swivel should help the line run easier too

You could also make it more visible by using your wife's nail varnish, (if fishing at distance)which can also be easily removed

Used a tip I saw last year, approx 6 inch length of 50lb mono through each of the rings with a swivel at either end. One tied to the mainline the other to a 3ft snood with sandeel on. Worked a bit like a popper with the float popping a spit of water in front of it.

Have you tried bombarda floats? Google it, they seem to be the lastest way to target bass and seatrout
