Dollymount wooden bridge area

Is this a worthwhile mark has anyone had any fish in this general area it has been cleaned up a lot over the years

I've heard of good mullet and bass being taken but all I've ever had is micro coallies and micro whiting. Seemed to reek of good flounder but never had one. Better of fishing off the back of the spit over high water.

Recently spent two evenings on the beach itself fishing for bass without any luck.

First evening was spent fishing with lures and plugs not a tap.
Second was spent fishing with Black Lug, Crab, Mackerl, Squid, Mussel and Fresh Lug. Lots of bait expented with out a tap just a boot full of sand.

I was fishing on the last hour/1.5 hrs of an incoming tide and then probable bout another 1.5hrs the other side

I was wondering if someone could give a breif expanation of the moons cycle and why this effects bass. Id like to see for myself does this run through and try in and around this area as I have in the past had bass to 5/ 6 lbs but it just been getting worse and worse over the past 5 years. there used to be a guy owened a small tackle an bait shop by the cafe at the bridge an i can vouch for him in saying he caught some serious bass off the bridge an wall as i seen him weighing a few of them in the shop but thats going back about 12 - 15 years ive tried the bridge and surrounding area's since then an have only ever managed 2 small scoolies and a couple of flats the redrock an sutton area seems to be more productive in late summer

Nothing on plugs and lures again yesterday evening in Portmarnock/Malahide

The area has cleaned up greatly in recent years , the place is full of mullet, fished it twice this year with lures around the bridge area and at the edge of the sand bar trying for sea-tout no takes im afraid.


Didnt see any fish show other than mullet, the seals are foraging there now however so there might be some other fish about i would be surprised if there wasnt flounders there ....................

Didnt hear of any bass caught in the area last year either.....but thats not to say there arent there....

Haven't heard of a bass from the bridge in years but if you go down to the old changing room you should pick up flounders and whiting , have to say I wouldn't waste my time

Basically about three hours after low-water, the mullet swim from the sea, under the wooden bridge to the flooding mud flats.

About four hours after low water I have seen the bass and/or sea trout speeding under the wooden bridge in the same direction as the mullet (no touch on the rag though). I guess they feed closer to Causway Road. Crab bait has been highly-recommended.

There also a tempting area at the north end of Bull Island, facing north-west towards Sutton. Fine sand, steep banks - the channel there looks pretty deep - even at low tide - with fast-moving water. I don't live in Ireland anymore but I'll be in Dublin next week-end so might give it a go then.
