River Lagan

Question for Belfast Anglers - I was coming into work this morning and traffic on the Upper Ormeau was pretty bad, so I cut down by the Embankment. I was opposite Cutters Wharf and saw a sign for fishing stands along the river. The stand had a notice on it saying that the species of fish caught from that stretch included Salmon, Sea Trout and Mullet. I there any truth in that ? I know the Lagan has been cleaned up a bit, but is this a bit of a dreamer in Belfast City Council playing with the signs, or is it true ? Anyone fished it for these species ?

sea trout were a bit slow this year haven't heard the salmon count yet ,loads of flounder around and freshwater eels also the odd brown trout ,best place to fish for any of the game fish is at the stranmillis pool , we done a fish survey a couple of weeks ago and picked up herring fry and sprats as well as some of the above ,there was a in depth survey done 3 years ago and there was 14 different species counted ,alot of these were imature fish but they must come from somewhere . I only know this cos i work on the river

seriously there may be the odd sea trout / salmon but i would not waste too much time fishing for them.

Some people dont take the time actually have a go in the river it would suprise you whats there loads of mullet to specimen size and we regularly see flounder knocking around the shallows behind central station , theres seals frequently seen in the river i've even seen photos of it going over the weir at stranmillis which is 3 miles inland from belfast harbour, i've seen seatrout in the 3-4lb bracket moving .
Its a shame people haven't changed their ideas from what the river used to be like
