Competition rigs

Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:15 pm

Just looking for a bit of help lads, fishing my first competition on saturday an I hope to get a few rigs tied up for it over the next couple of nights.Only started fishing in september so I have plenty to learn, including how to tie rigs properly! Will be making a few three hook flappers with size 4 hooks and would really appreciate a few tips about what to do and what not to do.I have a few floating beads and dont know if you put them on all three snoods and is there any conditions you wouldnt use the beads. Also I have a few little spinner blades chrome and painted, does anybody use these on flapper rigs? Finally is there any harm in having all your flappers as clip downs,I have came across a few people who dont use clips and was just wondering is there any disadvantages?
Thanks in advance for any replies :D

Only started making my own rigs recently but what i have been told and read up on is a floating bead is good on the middle snood. another thing to keep in mind is different snood lengths. different conditions you will need different lengths. i've had some recent success with 3ft snoods but it all depends on the day but good to have options. Have tried a few combinations of beads and blades but noting has stood out yet so just try them out and see what works for you.

You can clip down all the snoods on your flapper rigs mate but personally i only bother using clips for streamlined rigs to be fished at distance ie single hook with small bait to get out as far as possible. A 3 hook flapper rig is going to be fished fairly close in, especially if your looking for flounder ( and bass ). You'll only be wasting time during your comp when you could be doing something else like baiting up your spare rigs, preparing bait and of course watching for bites. I should say that i also use bait clps for big baits to stop them flailling around during the cast.
Good luck in the comp mate, enjoy it !!

Dont fish competition but think your hook size is big, you can get 1/0 kamasan match.Would help you get into more vaiety of fish, whereas in competitions my understand is the amount of fish rather than waiting for the a big fish but as i said i dont fish competition

What club are you fishing with and where is the comp? Match the rig to the type of species expected.

Pm me your address and I will send you a few rigs to try out if you wish.

Best Regards.
