Snoods

Is there a rule of thumb in lenght of snoods on a rig .Its my understanding that to stop them tangling they all hve to be the same lenght and what would be the consequence in having short snoods i construct my snoods 18inchs in lenght and have not lost fish, but would like more fish .I am just asking so i could understsnd the mechanics of the rigs better any advice would be appreciated lads

i would tie different length of snoods on similar rigs, you would use rigs with longer snoods on beaches with weak surf,so that they move around more attracting the fish, but if the surf is strong, and the snoods are going to get tossed around, then smaller snoods are more suitable

the angle you have your rodtip to the sea and the distance and depth of the beach can have a big effect on your catch rate lowering the rodtip if fishing in close will get your baits on the sand normally where flounders ect hang out  however if its weedy your line will catch more weed ,so its down to sea conditions too ,long pullys can be a nightmare for tangling on a surfy beach so always carry a few different lenghts
p.s what bs snoods do you use? 15 to 20 lb is ok for most fishing depending on what type of ground you fish over most? match anglers sometimes go ultra light but its risky if you hook into a big fish :|

Just a quick question roger. I use 15lb mainline, would u still use 15-20lb snoods. And why?

yes i would imagine ,no i only said imagine  you had a big fish on and you had to pull it through a big surf you nearly have him in after a good fight and miss time the last pull through the wave at your feet (your on your shockleader by now) the fish gets dragged backwards and entangled in some weed too  would you still have a fish on with a 10 lb snood :?:
