Some tips for shore conger fishing ?

I've never fished for conger before so need some advice.
Have seen reports of conger caught on the east pier in Howth so you must get them on the west pier aswell ?
I know most people use a boat rod but I have a 12ft beachcaster with a heavy casting weight so was thinking maybe that would do.
And last of all would it be ok using a fix spool reel instead of multiplier ? I was gonna load it with 40lb line and an 80lb leader.
Im planning on giving it a go in the summer so wanna make sure im using the right stuff.

hi.i was using a 20-30lb boat rod last month in galway with 25lb line i had the rod bent in half to move the conger up half way, when it wanted to go back down there was no stopping it and the line snagged a rock the line gave.they can be massive so keep the gear heavy.ill be using 50lb next time 40 probably do you if you have it.good luck, slack tide and night time probably best.good luck

how ya going!never used a boat rod for conger just with my 12 ft beach casters!so dont worry about that in the slightest.and ive only used fixed spools for fishing for conger.

its all up to yourself i use 200lb mono (suffix)for the trace better safe than loose a good fish, and cox aand rawle meathook 6-8/0 whatever your having youself!what ive always done is put on a good bit extra of 50lb leader onto my normal mainline grand job!

use old spark plugs/rotten bottom if its rough ground.drop net, gloves,!
